I remember spotting Shanaz, on the first day our boys started school, 4 years ago, she was just so effortlessly put together. Anything she wore, the rest of us, headed out to track down.
Shanaz, knows what suits her and sticks to it. She is the only person I know, who never random buys or is tempted by trends. She is text book, she invests twice year in key pieces, that add to the wardrobe, she already has.
I have learned so much from her, about waiting and not getting carried away by buying lots of little things, that if added up, would mean I could have bought one proper piece. It is about being patient and sleeping on a purchase ( Noreen I have adopted this rule) .
If you really have to have it, then you will put the effort in to go back, if not you didn’t really need it and you have saved your cash.
So what is the prize for patience? Well a small well edited wardrobe of pieces that work together and never again looking at piles of clothes with nothing to wear.
I am kicking of the series with the peplum jacket, I had never even considered this shape of jacket, until I saw this one from Antonio Berardi on Shanaz. It is one of the most beautiful pieces of clothing I have ever seen.
Day to evening this jacket works so hard and you always look dressed and just that bit edgy . This is something to buy in the sales or at a Sample Sale. I have my eye on this one on Vestaire from Givenchy and I adore this one from McQ.
I just love how she layers the jacket, over the perfect silk camisole from Zadig and Voltaire and a simple cardigan. It is a look that works from day to evening and is sassy, yet classic at the same time.
Shanaz swears by Rupert Sanderson heels, as they fit like gloves and you can run around in them all day, these are seasons old but still look current. There are loads for sale on Ebay at great prices. Also Zara again has done great kitten heels, you can navigate the school run in.
I love to see what others are wearing and be inspired, especially if these women are having to juggle the school run and work.
Buy less and buy better, with so many Sample Sales and Preloved sites, designer brands are much more attainable and a few key pieces, such as a killer peplum jacket, will be something that will be a constant in your wardrobe and elevate any look.
Next week we will be looking at the Pencil Skirt and how to style it to look current, thank you Shanaz .
